Without doubt the best way to discover the cellars and wine of the main cava producing region of Penedès is to make a getaway to the region, only 30 minutes away from Barcelona.
Although it is impossible to select from the nearly one hundred wineries in the area, we’ve picked out some of the less well known, all with excellent fine wines or cavas.
History lovers will enjoy the best wine with over 500 years of history at Mas Comtal or Can Pasqual, both with a heritage of over fifteen generations of winemakers; or Can Bas, an innovative project that has managed to combine modernity with history in one of the oldest houses in Sant Sadurní.
Bodegas With a View
In a small plateau in the mountains of Garraf, one can enjoy great wines of Viladellops. Spectacular landscapes and modernity also await us in Caves Vilarnau, on the way to Espiells; and a postcard view of the mountains of Montserrat at the viewpoint of Caves Llopart.
For an insight into ecologic viticulture a must visit is Albet i Noya, an fascinating project aiming to restore native grape varieties. A warm welcome awaits you at Cava Guilera, a small family winery specialising in aged cava of renowned quality; as well as Ca n’Estella, a bodega established in 1800 offering a very unique tasting experience.
